Activities

Interest Group members observe and report on the monthly meetings of the twelve member volunteer Cook County Health Board as well as several of the committee meetings.
Communication with board members and staff through emails, letters, and meetings as needed. 
Tours of the hospitals, Cermak jail Health Center, and regional community health centers.

that Every Voter Should Know
on Cook County
Health & Hospital System

1.  CCH is governed by an independent board that is approved by the Cook County Board which also approves its annual budget.  Effective in 2020, the CC Board provides oversight for financial and some HR matters including approval of top management.

2.  The Affordable Care Act has been key to increasing revenue to CCH primarily thru “County Care”. However, a County subsidy is still required for operations and some capital and pension debt.

3.  Stroger Hospital is renowned for its trauma center.

4. The CCH cares for more than 300,000 patients every year. 

5.  The County's health care budget is almost $3 billion dollars.
