      2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election 
June 28, 2022


In Cook County this election will determine who the party candidates will be in the November election for Cook County Board President, Cook County Sheriff, Cook County Clerk, Cook County Treasurer, Cook County Assessor, all 3 Cook County Board of Review Commissioners,  all 17  Cook County Board Commissioners, and several Metropolitan  Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Commissioners.

Also party candidates will be selected for state and federal offices and judicial positions for the November election.

Key Information for Voting 
  
Register to Vote
  • On paper/pdf and mailed in or register in person with a deputy registrar by Tues. May 31
  • Online by Sunday, June 12 at   Illinois Online voter application
  • In person at Early Voting Sites
  • In person on Election Day at home precinct for all and at 69 W. Washington and Union Station for Suburban residents​  ​​

Vote by Mail
  • Apply online for a Vote-by-Mail ballot at applicable Election Authorities’ web sites  by 5 pm on Thurs., June 23  (NOTE:  this method has lots of advantages, including that you will receive messages via email, such as your application has been approved, your ballot has been mailed, and your ballot has been received back and processed)
  • Can also mail or deliver to the Election authority a paper request, but again it must be received by 5 pm on Thurs., June 23
  • As part of the application for the ballot, may also request to be on the permanent vote-by-mail list.
  • Note:  for a primary election, must also identify which party ballot you want mailed to you (Democratic, Green, Libertarian, or Republican.  Or non-partisan, but then you can only vote on referenda, if any, that are part of the primary election.)
  • Completed Vote-by-mail ballots must
    • be mailed and postmarked on or before Tuesday, June 28 OR
    • be delivered to secure drop boxes at Early Voting sites or the applicable Election Authority’s office on or before Tuesday, June 28
    • Can also bring blank ballot and go instead to vote in person on June 28.
 
Early Voting
  • Starts Thursday, May 26 for Chicago residents at the Supersite at 191 N. Clark
  • Starts Wednesday, June 1 for Suburban residents at 69 W. Washington pedway and suburban Court Houses
  • Starts Monday, June 13 in all 50 wards for Chicago residents and at suburban sites (June 14 at Union Station) for Suburban residents.
  • Ends for all on Monday, June 27
  • The Chicago Board of Elections and Cook County Clerk’s web sites  should shortly have the list of Early Voting sites
 
Election Day Voting – Tuesday, June 28 from 6 am to 7 pm at local precincts for all; plus for Chicago residents at Chicago Early Voting sites; plus for Suburban residents at 69 W. Washington pedway and Union Station
